Visit the Six Square Cultural
Arts District

"Championing the arts as a cornerstone of community identity."

Six Square is home to numerous sites of national, regional, and local historic significance and celebrates African Americans and others who played important roles in creating the vibrancy of Austin. District tours create experiences that provide connections between the past and the present, in service to telling the full story of Austin.

Discover landmarks admired by today’s community and the history of sites where monuments once stood. Visit Austin’s local wonders that are tied to national history including the Chitlin’ Circuit which found a home in the historic Victory Grill and even the incubator known as Downs Field, home of the Austin Black Senators, part of the Texas Negro League, which connected to the national Negro League. Tours will begin at the George Washington Carver Complex, home to Austin’s only African-American museum, the Carver Genealogy Center, and the Carver Library.
